Performed laser tx around the L radius/ulna area. Removed some impacted feather material from dorsal side of L wing. There are some additional impacted feathers within follicular tracts. P is very sensitive to touching these, will need to anesthetize to remove those impactions. Possibly plan for tomorrow.

Wound Care:

Removed bandage from L wing. Removed duoderm - the piece was significantly larger than the wound. The underlying skin around the wound that had been covered by the duoderm is brighter pink and swollen. The wound area was covered by a thin layer of yellow exudate. Performed laser tx. Removed some of the exudate from the wound. Applied Omnicide ointment and left uncovered.

Removed bandage. Approximately 1cm by 5mm crust presenting within the wound site. Debrided with forceps. Granulation tissue present under the crust, but wound is heavily inverting, so removing crust is needed to allow wound to close. Packed wound with triple antibiotic ointment. WOUND CARE
L Antebrachium: Removed bandage. Wound is slightly smaller, but there is dried discharge in the center that appears to be inhibiting granulation and healing in this area. Flushed wound with sterile LRS. Applied sterile lubricant to the area to try to loosen the adhered debris - removed with forceps. Flushed again. Applied TAO. Covered with Duoderm and then tegaderm+telfa with notches cut out for proximal and distal blood feathers. P remains very sensitive to touching incoming feathers, not reactive to touching actual wound.

Removed body wrap and bandages. The large wound on the left wing is continuing to granulate in nicely. P is more sensitivie today to the bandage change, perhaps an indicator of new nerve growth/sensation. Seems particularly sensitive to touching a new feather shaft that is growing in bent. The axillary wound is healed. The ventral carpal wound is nearly healed. Did PROM with left wing - has full range of motion in al joints. Flushed wound with LRS, applied Duoderm, covered with tegaderm+telfa. Applied wing-to-body wrap.

Surgery report
Procedure - Wound debridement
Performed by - AMS
Surgery time - 15 minutes

Applied sterile lubricant to the adherent material over the wounds
on the right wing. Allowed to sit for a few minutes to loosen,
then was able to remove the material from the wounds. Flushed
all wounds with LRS and grossly debrided with betadine-soaked
gauze, then flushed again. Applied sterile drapes and then further
debrided the wounds with iris scissors and forceps. Decent granulation
beds present, but there is a 2-3cm segment of ulna that is exposed.
The bone does appear viable - white and shiny. Cannot close
wound, will need to rely on second intention healing, or perhaps
consider skin graft. Concern that secondary flight feathers
may not regrow due to trauma and feather removal prior to arrival
here. Flushed wounds (ventral carpus, mid-antebrachium, axilla)
again. Applied Veterycin, covered with Duoderm, then telfa +
tegaderm. Placed wing-to-body wrap with vetrap - did not want
to use tape over wound areas and exposed skin. Will need to
monitor wrap carefully. Assess wounds again tomorrow. Recovered
uneventfully from anesthesia.
